Programs for Children

Deborah brings the magic of mindfulness to children as both a Mindfulness Consultant and author of the The Magical Mindful Day. Available for home and school visits, she works with groups and individuals to address everyday concerns and fears and helps children understand how decisions, emotions and actions impact the Earth and every living being. Through art, music, writing, reading and discussion, she enables children to find peace from within.

“When we work together, nothing is beyond healing.”

These workshops include guided meditations, experiential exercises, group discussion, informal lecturing, and scientific research to develop loving-kindness, empathy, and compassion.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in the 1970s to treat patients struggling with life's difficulties, this eight week program is designed to help people face, accept and work through physical and emotional challenges. For a detailed explanation, watch the video here:

Compassion Cultivation Training

This 8-week course is designed to develop the qualities of compassion, empathy, and kindness for oneself and others. The course, developed by a team of contemplative scholars, clinical psychologists, and researchers at Stanford University in 2009, combines traditional contemplative practices with contemporary psychology and scientific research on compassion. The training includes: guided meditations and visualizations, experiential exercises, group discussion, informal lecturing, scientific research, and home practices geared to strengthen awareness, compassion, and resilience. Each year, Deborah will offer two Compassion Cultivation Trainings, including one free class in the Fall for a non-profit or an organization in need. More information about Compassion Education can be found here.

School Visits

“It was true pleasure to have Deborah Salazar Shapiro be a guest author in our classroom! The students thoroughly enjoyed listening to Deborah read ‘The Magical Mindful Day’ as well as the singing and coloring activities that followed the reading. We very much hope that we can have Deborah back as a presenter in our classroom!”
